Common ant species we treat
Australia is home to thousands of ant species, but only a handful become true pest ants in homes and businesses. Knowing which species you’re dealing with matters. Here are the most commonly found pest ants our technicians treat across the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane northside:
Black ants & sugar ants
Sugar ants and black ants are the most common intruders in SEQ kitchens. They’re drawn to food sources like crumbs, spills, pet food, and anything sweet. While they’re not dangerous, large colonies are a nuisance and a sign of an underlying ant problem that won’t fix itself.
Coastal brown ants
Coastal brown ants are among the most troublesome species on the Sunshine Coast. They build massive colonies under pavers, driveways, garden beds, and around building foundations. Their excavation activity can cause structural damage over time, and they’re notoriously difficult to control without targeted professional treatments.
Fire ants
Fire ants are a declared biosecurity pest in Queensland and a serious concern across North Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. They’re aggressive, deliver painful stings, and can cause severe allergic reactions.
Carpenter ants
Carpenter ants don’t eat timber, but they hollow it out to create nesting sites, often causing structural damage that can be just as serious as termite damage. If you notice large black ants around timber frames, decking, or roof voids, call us promptly. Our technicians will locate nesting sites and apply a targeted treatment.
Pharaoh ants
Pharaoh ants are tiny but tenacious. They thrive in warm indoor environments and are a particular concern in commercial properties such as hospitals, restaurants, schools, and food processing facilities — anywhere hygiene is critical. Pharaoh ants are known to contaminate food and sterile environments, and they respond badly to standard surface sprays (which can cause colonies to split and spread).
White ants (termites)
If you’ve spotted white ants in or around your home, you may not be dealing with ants at all, you could have termites. White ants and termites look very similar and are often confused. Termite activity can cause catastrophic structural damage and is usually not covered by home insurance.
Other species we treat include: bull ants, funnel ants, garden ants, ghost ants, pavement ants, Singapore ants, and yellow crazy ants.
