Chemical Termite Barriers

A chemical termite prevention barrier involves chemicals applied to the soil around the perimeter of your home’s foundation to prevent termites.

Chemical soil prevention treatments can be done either pre or post-construction. This is often the best option and the most forgiving of a home’s construction limitations. Installing chemical soil barriers can involve a mixture of trenching, drilling, installing or refilling reticulation lines, scarifying or horizontal treatments. The end result is that the soil that comes in contact with your home is impregnated with a termiticide. Since barrier installation is labour intensive, and the method of installation is dependent on how your home is built, we come to your home for a free on-site consultation and then provide a free proposal for your review before scheduling the installation.

However, chemical soil barriers are not permanent and have to be topped up, refilled, or reinstalled every so often.

How much does a chemical termite barrier cost

The cost of a chemical termite barrier for a typical 4 bedroom home built on a single level concrete slab can take anywhere between 1-2 days to install and will cost in the range of $1200-$4000.

It’s standard in Australia to need 12 monthly inspections every year to maintain the warranty provided by the chemical supplier. Regular treatments are also required to maintain a building warranty for a newly constructed home — these are usually guaranteed for 10 years.

How often should I refill my chemical termite prevention barrier?

The frequency of chemical soil barrier refills depends on three things:

The termite pressure in the location
The construction of the home
The type of soil

Termite Baiting

In addition to chemical termite barriers, there is a second option that’s gained popularity: termite baiting. However, due to the termite pressure we receive in QLD, termite baiting should only be used where a chemical soil barrier is not viable, or as a complementary one.

The only time we will install a baiting system is in the rare circumstance when a building’s design makes this the only option. We care too much about you, your family, and your home to use a baiting system when a chemical soil barrier is possible. Your peace of mind, comfort, and the value of your investment are too important for us to consider taking a shortcut. To put it simply, the best option is a chemical soil barrier so that is what we focus on to protect families and their homes.

Our Termite Prevention Barrier Installation Process

Whether you’ve never had a termite barrier installed, need to refill your existing chemical termite prevention barrier, or have seen termites in and around your home, we want you to know exactly what to expect when working with our team!

1. Free On-Site Consultation

We provide a free consultation where one of our pest technicians comes to your home to:

Measure the perimeter of your home
Review footing depth
Assess the best way to install a new barrier or rejuvenate an existing one

We will discuss all options with you and develop a plan on how to get the job done right!

2. Termite Management System Proposal

After our free onsite consultation, you’ll be emailed a Termite Management System Proposal which outlines the scope of work and costs.

Our amazing customer service team will be in contact to discuss and answer any questions you may have. We understand this is a big investment and want you to feel 100% prepared with all the information you need!

3. Confirmation

If you choose our team to help install or refill a termite prevention barrier for your home, we will send a document to be signed electronically (very easy — we promise!) to confirm a start date.

Please note, we take a 20% deposit and book a time to conduct the installation.

4. Termite Barrier Installation Or Refill Begins!

We’ll get started on our agreed start date and at the end of the installation (or refill) a notice will be placed in your metre box.

The specifics of what happens on installation (or refill day) are dependent on what needs to be done. It can take anywhere from one hour to two days, which can be split across four days.

We’ll let you know the plan for your home before installation (or refill) begins.

5. Certificate Of Barrier Installation

Our team will email you your certificate of installation for your records. This certificate includes what product was used, how much of it was used, what the active chemical is, how long the system is designed to last, what (if any) limitations there are, and shows where it was installed. This is an important record to keep for the following reasons:

Resale of your home
If you decide to use a different pest control company in the future, the new company will be able to understand your Termite Management System
It tells you when you need to renew your system
